FAQ
Absolutely, all you need is a little wall space.
Most issues with pellet stoves have to do with cleaning. Clean it thoroughly, including the vent.
It depends on what kind of fireplace you have. If it’s a masonry fireplace - those made of brick and block with clay chimney liners - you can install a wood burning or gas insert. Factory-built fireplaces – those composed of a metal fireplace with a metal chimney in a stud wall - are more limited in the number of available inserts. These can be replaced by a new high-efficiency fireplace.
This depends on many factors. Open fireplaces burn very hot and creosote build-up is rare. Open your damper and look up the chimney - you will know immediately. Slow-burning appliances are a different story. Check them often and clean them at least annually.
Make sure you turn the valve from the PILOT position back to the ON position. This is a very common mistake.
No. Sorry, but wood-burning chimneys must vent vertically with the termination two feet higher than anything within ten feet.
This is a gas burning fireplace that can be vented horizontally or vertically and draws 100% of the combustion air from outside. It uses combustion to vent and doesn’t need draft.
More than likely there is a blockage somewhere in the pipe, at the cap or the appliance. You could plug a chimney up very quickly by not burning the proper wood.
Yes, all you need is a gas line to the fireplace. In most cases it’s not a problem to do this.
Change the batteries. Most units have batteries in the hand-held remote and in the receiver in the appliance. The receiver batteries are often missed.
